Willo secures £3M to launch verified candidate profiles

Glasgow-based Willo secures £3M from Mimecast co-founder Peter Bauer to roll out verified candidate profiles amid a surge in AI-generated job applications.

Willo, a Glasgow-based recruitment technology startup, has secured £3 million in funding from Mimecast co-founder Peter Bauer. The investment — Willo’s largest to date — brings its total funding to more than £5.9 million.

Bauer has invested £3.7 million in Willo over the past 18 months and will support the company’s North American growth strategy.

Founded by Scottish entrepreneurs Euan Cameron, Andrew Wood, and Hamish Livingston, Willo offers a remote-first candidate screening platform used by thousands of employers to streamline hiring through structured video and audio interviews. The platform is designed to reduce bias and accelerate talent discovery.

The new funding will accelerate the rollout of Willo Verified Profiles, a tool that aggregates third-party data to automatically verify identity, education, work history, and skills. The product aims to help employers navigate a surge in AI-generated applications that are increasingly difficult to review.

Employers tell us they are inundated with AI-generated CVs that are hard to verify and review. That’s making it increasingly difficult for genuine, qualified candidates to stand out” said Euan Cameron, Willo’s co-founder and CEO. He added that the round, secured on strong terms in a tough market, is a vote of confidence in the company’s direction.

The company is betting that verified profiles will help recruiters filter out fraudulent applications while giving authentic candidates a clearer signal to potential employers.
